Clorox Building
Mr. Brubaker joined Grubb
& Ellis Development Company, a subsidiary of Grubb and Ellis Company
with responsibility for the Clorox Building, a 490,000 square
foot office building designed by Cesar Pelli which was the second element
of Oakland City Center to be completed. Oakland City Center is a
15-block urban renewal project at Broadway and 14th Street in downtown
Oakland. Most of the 15-block area had been cleared prior to his
arrival. The plan included five office buildings, a hotel and a
regional mall with three major department stores, all directly connected
to the adjacent San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) station at one
end of the project and the freeway at the opposite end.
He negotiated the final form
limited partnership agreement with Grubb and Ellis Company as sole general
partner, and the construction and permanent financing documents. He
subsequently oversaw the development budget and was given the
responsibility to sell part of the ownership interest of Grubb and
Ellis. He also negotiated leases for the completed building.
Mr. Brubaker then became
responsible for refinancing and asset management aspects of the adjacent Wells Fargo Building, was named Vice
President of Grubb & Ellis Development Company, and later returned
to form a partnership with Grubb & Ellis Development Company for the
development of an office building in downtown San Francisco in joint
venture with Bramalea Limited.
