400 North Rodeo
Drive
400 North Rodeo Drive was acquired by Haseko
to create a marketing center for their residential development projects in
Los Angeles, CA. As seen at the bottom of this page, it was a
non-descript office building at the northeast corner of Rodeo Drive and
Brighton Street in Beverly Hills. Haseko wanted the marketing
center, planned for the street level of the building, to be
designed in the style of an English tea room. To provide a dramatic
entry, space from the second level of the building was incorporated into
the entry hall to create a double-height, vaulted space with an inlaid
marble floor.
Mr. Brubaker selected and hired the
architect, contractor and interior designer to renovate the
building exterior and create the center much as they would have been in
18th century London, when the interior would have
incorporated a mixture of English and French furnishings and accessories.
He employed an artist to create an oil painting of each of Haseko's residential projects
then for sale, and
these were hung on the walls in the main gallery as seen immediately
above.
As the project was designed, a left-over
space behind the main gallery without a clear purpose became
problematic. This became the scene of a large Trompe L'Oeil behind
the glass windows below.
